ANDERSON, SC - Mrs. Geneva “Gigi” Leverette Allen, age 90, of 500 Concord Road, #B-5, Anderson, died on July 6, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Almond O. Leverette and the late Della Cleveland Leverette. She was married for forty-six years to the late Milford “Nick” Allen, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Allen was a dedicated member of the Orrville Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. Having a career in childcare, she taught many children at Boulevard Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Church day school programs and was affectionately known as “Miss Gigi”. All of her life, she loved gardening, going to the beach, traveling, and walking. She was also an avid Gamecock fan. Geneva was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend.
Left to carry on Mrs. Allen’s legacy are a son, Chuck Allen and his wife, Sharon, of Anderson; 2 daughters, Peggy Allen Mason and Vicki Allen Jones, both of Columbia; 2 sisters, Pat Ozmint and her husband, Ed, of Anderson, and Sue Scott of Bennettsville, SC; 5 grandchildren, Rhett Wehunt and his wife, Lisa, and Blake Wehunt, both of Lexington, SC, Josh Allen and his wife Taylor, Miranda Allen and Callie Allen, all of Anderson; and great-grandchild, Jordan Wehunt of Lexington, SC.
In addition to her husband and parents, those who preceded her in death include her brothers, Al Leverette, Jr. and Bobby Joe Leverette and a sister, Doris Ramsey.
A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Allen will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Chuck and Sharon Allen, 112 Graylyn Court, Anderson, and will receive friends Monday from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caregivers at No Place Like Home, the medical staff of NHC, AnMed Health, and Rainey Hospice House for their loving care. The family would also like to thank Pastor Wendell Bannister for all his faithful visits and prayers.
