Howard M. Smith, age 78, of 150 Shadow Creek Lane, Anderson, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Lavonia, GA, he was the son of the late Joseph J. Smith and the late Gladys Smith. Mr. Smith was retired as a Maintenance Supervisor at Owens Corning Fiberglass with over thirty years of service. He had several special interests and hobbies. He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, and enjoyed any kind of auto racing. He also enjoyed golf. Howard was a member of the Forest Hill Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army where he was a paratrooper.
Left to carry on his Legacy are two sons, Rodney H. Smith of Gainesville, GA, and Russell D. Smith, and his special friend, Judy Morris, of Anderson; a sister, Montez McCombs of Anderson. He was also survived by a special lady, Hazel Gibson and her son, Steve, of Anderson.
Those preceding him in death include his beloved wife of 34 years, Claudine Evans Smith, his parents, and a brother, Randolph Smith.
A Service honoring the life of Howard Smith will be held Sunday, April 8, 2012, at 3:30 PM at The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard T. Lister officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at their respective homes, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 6 PM until 8 PM.
