MARY FRANCES NIXON McGARITY

July 23, 1945 – March 23, 2012

Mary Frances Nixon McGarity, age 66, of 2418 Marchbanks Avenue, Anderson, died at Rainey Hospice House on Friday, March 23, 2012.   She was born in Anderson.  Mrs. McGarity was raised in Starr, SC, the daughter of the late Frank Nixon and the late Delma Jefferson Nixon.  Preceding her in death was her first husband, the late Peter Rambusch, then her second husband the late Joseph Harrison McGarity.

Mary Frances was a 1963 graduate of Crescent High School in Starr.  During the year 1963 she reigned as “Miss Anderson.”  After completing Crescent High, she attended Marsh Business College in Atlanta.  She was a flight attendant with United Airlines.  She later worked in tourism with Capital Tours in Columbia, SC.  Most recently, Mary Frances was a leasing consultant with Tanglewood Apartments in Anderson.  She attended New Spring Church.

Survivors include a son, Matthew Nixon Rambusch and his wife, Aleisha of Anderson;  a sister, Nancy Nixon Nance of Orangeburg; a granddaughter, Bailey Nicole Rambusch of Anderson; a niece, Catherine Lee Nance of Atlanta.  The family would like to recognize special friends and caregivers Nancy Arnold and Rosemary Mahaffey. 

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 2 PM until 3:30 PM.  A private family service will be held at a later time.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. McGarity may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E. Calhoun Street, Anderson, SC 29621.  The family will always be grateful to the Association for its support during Mrs. McGarity’s illness.
