ANDERSON, SC - Furman “Shorty” Ralph Fields, 81, of 1932 Wright School Road, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012, at the Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Williamston, Mr. Fields was the son of the late Willie “Bill” Fields and “Evie” Campbell Fields. He retired from the Abbeville Milliken plant after 37 years of employment. He was an avid gardener and loved working in his garden and driving his tractor. He was a devoted member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie McGaha Fields; sons, Ben Fields and his wife, Nancy, and Wayne Fields and his wife, Donna, both of Anderson; grandchildren, Jennifer Fields, Beth Lackey and her husband, John; great-grandchildren Abby, Alex, and Avah; brothers, Marshall Fields of Iva, Odell Fields of Westminster; sisters, Florence Clark, Johnnie Taylor, both of Anderson, and Nadine Purdy of Iva.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Billy Fields, and his sister, Louise Ferguson.
The family will receive friends at the McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, February 25, 2012, from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, with the funeral beginning at 2:30 pm in the Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Ron Culbertson and the Reverend Chris Guire officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Kaye McCurry Sunday School Class.
