October 11, 1933 – November 26, 2012

IVA, SC - Janet Eleanor Pennington, age 79, of 780 Craft McGee Ferry Road, Iva, completed her journey to eternal life on Monday, November 26, 2012.  

Born in Iva, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Crayton Simpson and the late Willie Mae Skelton Simpson.  She was a 1955 graduate of Lander University.  From 1957 until 1997 she lived in Augusta, GA until moving back to Iva, SC.  She was a retired elementary school teacher.  Janet was a Christian and active member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church.  She was devoted to her family, her church and her community. 

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Sexton and her husband Michael of Evans, GA; two sisters, Doris Crook of Iva, SC and Ina Smith of Greensboro, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benny R. Pennington; a son, Russell H. Pennington; six brothers and one sister.

The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 11:00 am with Reverend Jason Moss and Reverend Jerry Hill officiating.  Interment will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 11:30 am at Westover Memorial Park, Augusta, GA with Reverend James Rogers officiating. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. 

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Poplar Spring Baptist Church, 8041 Hwy 187 South, Iva, SC 29655 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
