October 16, 1915 – November 23, 2012
Frances Dawes Ballentine, long time resident of Anderson, died Friday, November 23, at Emeritus Countryside Villages, Easley, at the age of 97. Frances grew up in Hawkinsville, GA and was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She was married in 1937 to Harry L. Dawes and they had two children, Andy and Evelyn (Kinnard). After Harry’s death, Frances married Joe M. Ballentine who had one child, Marceile (Riddick). Joe preceded Frances in death December 2003, shortly after celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary. Frances had five grandchildren and five great grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her very large family.
She was also well loved by many friends and neighbors, many who have preceded her in death. She was known for her gracious hospitality and infectious smile and laughter. She was very active in many community services: PTA, Red Cross, YMCA, Garden Club, Anderson County Community Concert Association, and was vice president of Townsend Cotton Mill. She was active in both Episcopal churches in Anderson—at Grace where she was the first women to be on the vestry, and at St. George where she and Joe were among its founding members.
Frances graduated from Hawkinsville High School and continued her education whenever possible: Clemson Continuing Education, Ecumenical Institute, The School of Theology, and Kanuga Conferences.
The Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 at 1:00 pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm before the service, at the church. According to her wishes she will be buried in her family’s plot in Orange Hill Cemetery, Hawkinsville, GA.
