HARTWELL, GA - Mrs. Lillian Powell Blalock, age 91, of 719 Mt. Olivet School Road, Hartwell, GA, passed away at Country Villa in Rancho Mirage, CA, on Sunday, January 1, 2012.  She was born in Anderson, SC, daughter of the late Rosa Lee Smith Powell and Samuel Powell.  Lillian was the wife of the late Claude O’Dell Blalock to whom she was married for 63 years.

Mrs. Blalock was a member of Flat Shoals Baptist Church in Hartwell. For a number of years, she was a spinner at Anderson Mills.  Her real passion in life was her family and her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She also gave of herself in many ways, having served as a foster-parent and as a care giver for the elderly.  She always enjoyed gardening where she grew vegetables and flowers.  Cooking fried chicken, homemade biscuits and mashed potatoes with gravy was her specialty.  Lillian was also an avid baseball fan, with her favorite team being the Atlanta Braves.

Carrying on her legacy are her children, Etrulia L. White (James) of Anderson, SC; Kenneth C. Blalock (Reba) of Hartwell, GA; Ronald Patrick Blalock of Palm Desert, CA., Carolyn Ann Goldman (Mickey) of Palm Desert, CA; and Janet Lynn Adkins of Canon, GA.  Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Blalock was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Samuel Blalock; a sister, Sarah Kathleen Powell; and four brothers, Albert, Thurman, Curtis and James Powell.

A Service Celebrating the Life of Mrs. Blalock will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Stewart, and Rev. John Daniel officiating.  Interment will follow in the New Silver Brook Cemetery.
