ANDERSON-Fritz N. Watson, Jr. of 171 Towne Creek Trail in Anderson, S.C., passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2011.
Born in Anderson on January 18, 1927, he was the son of the late Fritz N. Watson Sr. and Beulah Moorhead Watson. He enrolled at Berea College in Kentucky in 1943 at the age of 16. After two years, he was drafted into the army and served as a staff sergeant in the finance corps as a part of the occupation forces in Germany. Returning from his service, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics at Berea College in 1949. He went on to pursue graduate studies in Electrical Engineering at Georgia Tech before taking a position at Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Tennessee as a nuclear engineer. He eventually took a position with the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, DC, where he worked at as a nuclear safety engineer until his retirement in 1982 at the age of 55. During this period, he was also the founder of Aquarius Enterprises, a swimming pool company that employed all four of his sons for several years. Upon his retirement, he returned to Anderson and built a home on his childhood family farm and worked in land development.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Reece Watson, , his four sons, Neil, Rick, Doug and Stan Watson, their wives, thirteen grandchildren and his sister, Jean Watson Warrick.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, September 21, at Boulevard Baptist Church, where Fritz and his wife have attended for many years. Interment will be at Salem Baptist Church on Salem Church Road immediately following the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 20 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the residence.
