ANDERSON, SC - James Ernest Deaton, Sr., age 89 of Anderson, husband of the late Maybelle Ramey Deaton, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Oconee County, SC on February 22, 1922, Mr. Deaton was a son of the late Charles Quinton Deaton and Lalah Phillips Deaton.  He was a United States Army World War II veteran.  Mr. Deaton was a carpenter for many years and was the co- owner of Deaton & Son Construction Company.  He was a former member of the Anderson County Home Builders Association and was a member of Belmont Church of God of Prophecy 

Survivors include his sons, James E. Deaton, Jr., and his wife, Barbara, Marshall E. Deaton and his wife, Debbie, Kenneth R. Deaton and his wife, Gail, all of Anderson; brother, Joel Deaton of Westminster; sisters, Nellie Thomas of Winder, GA, Mildred Burrell and Evangeline Crowe, both of Salem, SC and Ester Jackson of Pendleton, SC; seven grandchildren, James Deaton, III, Jason Deaton, Brent Deaton, Kimberly Deaton, Melissa Deaton, Justin Deaton and Dustin Deaton and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Verner and Alton Ray Deaton and a sister, Beulah Hamrick. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 2:00  pm in the Chapel of The McDougald  Funeral Home officiated by the Reverends, Allen Rhodes, Jerry Nation, and Rodney Harbin.  Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family will be at the home of his son, Marshall Deaton, 129 Roberts Church Road, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm. 

Flowers are optional.  Memorials may be made to Belmont Church of God of Prophecy, 203 Belmont Drive, Anderson, SC  29624 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
