ANDERSON – Mabel Scott Hanks, 95, a resident of National HealthCare Center, formerly of the Ebenezer Community, widow of Louie Christy Hanks, died Monday, May 10, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born August 24, 1914 in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late William Auld and Ethel Jane Austin Scott. She was retired lunchroom supervisor at Wright Elementary School and was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church. 

Survivors include a son, Gerald Scott Hanks and wife, Miriam A. Hanks, a daughter, Sylvia Hanks Atkin and husband, Albert Allen Atkin, Sr., all of Anderson; five grandchildren, Jamie Scott Hanks and wife, Trisha, Matthew Preston Hanks and wife, Jodie, John Andrew Hanks and wife, Kayla, Albert Allen Atkin, Jr. and wife, Kelly, and Christi Atkin Getsinger and husband, Jody; and nine great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bertie Austin Scott, Harold Scott, and Thomas Scott (died in W.W.II), and two sisters, Martha S. Washington and Corine S. McKinney. 

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, conducted by Rev. Ellen Younker and Rev. Ron Culbertson. Burial will be in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, 401 North Main Street, Anderson. The family is at the home of Sylvia and Albert Atkin, Sr., 1229 Due West Highway, Anderson.
