ANDERSON – Rebecca Francis “Betty” Caldwell, a resident of Summit Place of Anderson, formerly of 215 Timber Lane, wife of John W. “Bill” Caldwell, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born October 1, 1930 in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Robert Veston and Ella Susan Parham Francis. Betty was a nurse at National Health Care in Anderson for 26 years and was very devoted to her patients. She also loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church where she served in the nursery, sang in the sanctuary choir, and was a member of the Amy Jameson Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Bill Caldwell of the home; her children, Pat Caldwell of Fredericksburg, VA, Johnnie Caldwell, Rebecca C. “Becky” Jones, Tom Caldwell, and Chris Caldwell, all of Anderson, Kenny Caldwell, M.D. of Awendaw, SC, and Laurie C. Scheffer of Hanahan, SC. She adored her 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lyman Francis, who died November 22, 1944 in the Battle for Metz, in Patton’s Army.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Concord Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Don Cox and Rev. Bob Marcaurelle. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Entombment in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum will be private. Pallbearers will be her five sons and her beloved son-in-law, Butch Jones. The body will be placed in the church at 12 noon Saturday. The family is at the home of a daughter, Becky Jones, 107 Laurel Lane, Pendleton.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund or Music Fund at Concord Baptist Church, 1012 Concord Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
