ANDERSON – Martha Evelyn “Mombo” Bannister King, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born January 11, 1926 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late B. Brodus and Marie Kay Bannister. Martha was a 1942 graduate of Girls High and later retired from Sears Roebuck. She was a former member of Anderson County Republican Women’s Club and a member of Concord Baptist Church.
Surviving are her 2 daughters, Teresa King Welborn and Janice King Waters; 2 sons-in-law, Jerry Welborn and Dwaine Waters whom she loved like sons, all of Anderson; 2 grandchildren, Mendy Fuller and her husband, Todd and Don Welborn and his wife, Susan; 3 great grandchildren, Cameron and Ashlyn Fuller and Sarah-Kate Welborn; special family friends, Bill Hunter and Vivian Ashley; 3 brothers, Willis Bannister of Belton, Jimmy Bannister of Gastonia, NC and Jerry Bannister of Belton and her beloved dog, Renny. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Howard E. King; sister, Frances B. Cassity and brother, Harris Bannister.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 11am at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Revs. Bill Parnell and Mark Pollard officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the home of the granddaughter, Mendy Fuller, 1139 Springdale Road.
